Coorg is breathtakingly beautiful in any season monsoon being my favorite.
Twenty odd trips puts me in a good spot to answer this question
Coorg is breathtakingly beautiful in any season monsoon being my favorite.
There are a few things to keep in mind while going to coorg
1. Madikeri sleeps early, make sure to reach the restaurant before 8:30 pm if you plan to eat in the town
2. Request them not to make your food very spicy. Coorgi food is usually very hot
3. Carry your own medical kit and toiletries. It's impossible to find a drugstore late at night
4. Beware of leeches near streams during monsoon.
5. Don't try off-roading at Mandalapatti or any other peak where they suggest you hire a jeep. The terrain will be really very tough and you are not familiar with narrow bends on these roads
6. Carry your own trash bag and discard your trash at designated trash bins. Do not litter!
7. Try to explore destinations beyond the popular ones. Take advice from your hotel or homestay.
8. Make sure you have discussed things like availability of power backup, dinner arrangements, hot water etc clearly with the owners of the homestay. Don't pay the entire amount before reaching your destination.
9. Edit: This holds good for Chikmaglur too, it is common to find adorable wooden dolls of an old couple sized about two feet and a small wooden cart beside the dolls. These are usually found below trees on the side of the roads near forests. Do not take selfies with these dolls if you don't want to be laughed at. The villagers parade such dolls on carts throughout the village on certain days and they believe that these dolls accumulate negative energies. After the ritual they leave the doll outside thier village believing that negative energies have left with the dolls. Personally I don't believe in such things! But the villagers giggle at you if you take selfies with these dolls
