Viral Meningitis - Signs and Symptoms of Meningitis
Meningitis is inflammation (swelling) of the protective membrane covering the brain and spinal cord.

In the United States, most cases of meningitis are caused by viral infections, but bacterial, parasitic, and fungal infections are other causes. Some cases of meningitis get better without treatment within a few weeks. Others may be life-threatening and require emergency antibiotic treatment.
